music to Asian audiences, with the concert the band will perform at
the World
Day of the Music in Beirut (Lebanon) next June

TOUR
POLACU 04
FELPEYU toured Poland
the last July 2004. The main performance took place at Festiwal
Celticky Dowspuda, in Dowspuda, north-east of the
country, a natural space of incredible beauty. The band performed then
at Skierniewice on the
Ethnosfera
Festival, one of the main folk/world music festivals in Poland.
Finally, the band headed to Warszawa for two concerts, the most
remarkable at Traffic Club hall,
one of the most active concert halls in Warszawa. Our very special thanks
from here to Piotr Fiedorowicz and the friends of The
Reelium and Riméad, that made the tour possible
for us.

GALICIAN
TOUR 04
FELPEYU was
touring Galicia March 23 to 27, for five promotional concerts to introduce
Galician audiences to the new cd and repertoire. As usual there, concerts
were very warm and enjoyable. We send all our best wishes and thank
yous to the Galician audiences, as well as to the organisers and halls:
Miudiño (Arcediagos,
13 Ourense), Clavicémbalo
(Rúa Dos
Paxariños, 23 Lugo),
Estudio 3
at the
Galician Radio
(Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña),
Sete Mares (Trv.
Santiago de Vigo, 2
Vigo) y
Outotono
(Ponteareas, Pontevedra). Very special thanks to our tour managers
Mare
Producciones,
for their great work and dedication.

FELPEYU IN BRUSSELS
Last january 31st, FELPEYU was performing in Brussels for the Asturian
community that is based there. The show was organised by the friends
of Radio
Alma -the
main radio broadcasting in Spanish language (and some Asturian too)
on the Brussels area- together with the
Centro Cabraliegu,
the most active Asturian Center in the city. Apart of looking after
us awfully well, this group works very hard on keeping in good health
and spreading out Asturian culture, music and gastronomy in Belgium.
The show took place on a beautiful hall in the city center,
Baron Steels (Rue
Haute n. 157 1000 Brussels). More than 350 people danced and enjoyed
the music very much at one of the warmest concerts we have had lately.
Thanks to everybody there indeed!

CELTIC CONNECTIONS 04
The last edition
of the Scottish folk festival
CELTIC CONNECTIONS
took place in Glasgow the last month of January 2004. FELPEYU was somehow
represented there:
Ígor was
asked to perform in Glasgow, as the bouzouki player of an international
folk band that gathered there to support the festival opening show at
the Glasgow
Royal Concert Hall,
Jan 14th 2004. The event happened to be simply awesome, and inspiring
enough for Ígor to write a report of it for the Asturian news
site Asturies.com.
Here you have the report,
as well as some pictures.
"HARVEST
is a performance
of original music by
Donald Shaw and
musicians from the major European Celtic Regions. More than 100 musicians
were involved in the project - including 77 youngsters, the cream of
the country's new generation mostly from the Fèisan
movement. The young
musicians, aged 13 to 21, will perform alongside some of the most respected
musicians from the Celtic regions of Galicia and Asturies in Spain,
Brittany in France and, of course, Ireland and Scotland."

Harvest rehearsal at the Main Stage, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Jan
14th.

OPENING SHOW
This is the poster
of the last Yá!
opening show which
happened last Thursday
June 26th
at the Albéniz
Hall (Xixón)
which was full of Felpeyos: friends, ex-fellow musicians, people related
to the band through the last years and such a warm and enthusiastic
audience that was supporting us over up to two hours of music and fun.
Thanks to all of you who've been there, you made that night really special
and we only wish you had as much fun down there as we did up on the
stage. also thanks to
Xunta
Pola Defensa de la Llingua Asturiana which
help was essencial for the organization of the gig, and also to
Llibrería Paradiso, Baruku,
Café Trisquel and
Ca Beleño
Xixón/Uvieo for helping with previous ticket sales.

A
NEW CD AT LAST!
You are surely
aware that FELPEYU had just released their new album,
Yá!,
May 19 2003. It was recorded between
February and November 2002, and all the production -either artistic,
technical and executive- was developed by ourselves. Distribution will
be in the hands of
K
Industria,
with wich we expect to cover properly the whole country.
There are certainly
some remarkable things from the recording. The technical factor was
certainly important to improve our sound the way we did. The recording
and mixing was developed at
Sinergia Digital Studios
in Madrid, and, apart of the well known quality of those studios, the
essential fact was that
Salva López
-our sound engineer live- is working there at the moment; it was our
intention to work with him, as he knows us better than any other engineer,
and we think it definitely was the best thing to do as working together
we reached a total control of the sound and what we wanted to get out
of it.
On the musical
side, on top of our usual line-up we counted one more time with the
help of the other felpeyos.
Elías
played a few awesome fiddles;
Boni provided
us with more of those lyrics that only he can write, and
Salva
threw in one the Hammond organ we always require. Last,
but not least, Fernando
helped us hugely
one more time on the language assistance. It is aalso a novelty that
we finally felt able to write a couple of lyrics for both melodies of
the album, which we find as a complicate step to take; we quite like
the resaults, as we hope you will too.
We are also
behing the graphics once again with another home made concept
design. On this field it was essential to have the help of all the
Motorvisión crew
and their virtuosity on the Mac, and the work of such a top-quality
manufacturer as
Sony DADC Austria.
At this point, we suppose nobody would be surprised about the regular
visual ambiguity we like to show on our packagings, in another
try to keep the Asturian music away from certain graphic icons of reiterative
use that -in our modest opinion- make it too limited visually . That
way, Yá!
is probably the
best example of our perspective about it all.
We realize that
many of you were looking forward to this work. There are several reasons
why its releasing had to be delayed this long; first, because from the
beginning we were determined to reach the best quality we are able to
give, with no time restrictions or hurries. Later on, because the executive
production also took its time: these last months we gave birth to the
new label Tierra
Discos,
with wich we are enthusiastic to do the best work we can for the Asturian
folk music. Then, of course, because in the middle of it all came our
third Australian tour -March and early April-, something that always
takes a lot of time and effort. But oh, well: here is
Yá!
You can tell whether
it was worth the waiting!

Presenting
Yá! at the SGAE Asturies, May 22 2003
¡...AND
SEE YOU SOON!
That's all by now. We
will keep updating this place with fresh news from Felpeyu and its members.
Thanks for being there, see you shortly!
